92 and still going strong

The famous Golden Girl, Betty White turned 92 in 2014. After 65 years in show business, she is still going strong and vow not to retire from the show business. Her current TV shows include Hot in Cleveland, a sitcom on TV Land and Off Their Rockers, reality prank show on Lifetime.

Avid animal lover she recently revealed that she has a relationship with many zoos in the US. She also revealed that her favorite is Koko, a 42-year-old gorilla that she communicates using sign language. She recently took an early morning trip to Tucson Zoo to see three newborn lion cubs. Her cast members in Hot in Cleveland adopted a horse in her honor on her 92nd birthday. Her animal attraction is very apparent from her extensive collection of stuffed animals too. She also reveals that her favorite show was a short lived 1970s TV series called The Pet Set. She strongly believes that her love affair with animals is the reason she is going strong even at 92 years of age. She has no desire to retire and her fans adore her even at 92. Someone like Betty is very rare and we hope that she will entertain everyone many more years to come.

America’s summertime TV dance competition

Started airing in July 2005, So You Think You Can Dance is an American television dance competition aired by Fox. Show is not limited to the United States and many other countries worldwide conduct similar shows under license from So You Think You Can Dance franchise. More than ten million viewers have been recorded to watch the show in the US. It is top American TV show in the summer. Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe who produces the famous American Idol also produce the So You Think You Can Dance. Cat Deeley, a former British TV personality hosts the show.

Auditions for the show start in number of cities throughout the US and selected dancers are put through many different dances later. Finally, small group of dancers chosen and their ability in many forms of dances are tested in groups, duets and solo dances. Their performances are voted by the TV audience and low score candidates are eliminated throughout the competition reaching a small number as the finalists. They will be again tested for their dance ability in variety of dances including jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, and classical. Finally the winner is chosen and the winner gets a cash prize and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer.

Saturday Night Live (SNL) turning forty

We all look forward to “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night.” The iconic late night show broadcast from Studio 8H of GE Building in New York City turns forty in October 2015. Premiered on October 11, 1975 with late George Carlin and musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian, the NBC networks Saturday Night Live is a variety show that includes comedy. Large number of talented cast involved with the show. Each episode of the show hosted by a celebrity guest supported by the SNL cast members and includes a musical guest. The show already conducted more than 760 shows and counting. The show is planning a big 40th birthday bash in February 2015.

The show won numerous awards including 36 Emmy Awards (156 nominations), three Writer’s Guild of America Awards, Peabody Award and inducted in to the National Association of Broadcast Hall of Fame. Many cast members of SNL gone on to do other things including TV and films. Recent notable cast members who left the show to do other things includes Tina Fay (30 Rock), Amy Phehler (Parks and Recreation on NBC), Seth Myers (the current host of Late Night on NBC) and Jimmy Fallon (current host of Tonight Show on NBC).

Debut on November 18, 1928 at the Colony Theatre in the New York City as “Steamboat Willie” as his first public appearance for the Walt Disney Studios Mickey Mouse, that funny Disney cartoon character is reaching a milestone. Today it entertains millions of young kids and young at heart all around the world. The infamous character has been created by Ub Iwerks after trying out several other animal characters at the request of Disney Studios. Unlike other cartoon characters before, it was the first time for a character to have sound synchronized. It is one of the most commonly recognized cartoon characters of the whole world. Mickey Mouse has more than 130 movies to his credit including the 1940 movie Fantasia. Mickey Mouse also appears in countless other productions including TV shows and live productions. One of his best animated short films, Lens Paw, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1942. His own Hollywood Walk of Fame Star came in 1978 and Mickey has een nominated for many awards.

Mickey’s appearances were mostly accompanied by his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, his pet dog Pluto, and friends including Donald Duck, Pete, and Goofy.
