Favorite TV character to brighten children during holidays

Posted by elegant On January - 24 - 2014

Last Christmas Barbie and Legos were joined by Disney’s latest toy, Doc McStuffins. Within the last two years, the new character became a sensation for kids. Based on Disney Junior channel’s animated pre-school children’s television hit series, Disney introduced a six-year old aspiring doctor Dottie “Doc” McStuffins and her medical kit along with her dragon and snowman friends as toys for the holidays. The television series is produced by Brown Bag Films and started airing on Disney Junior and Disney Channel on March 23, 2012. The story revolves around a six-year old girl who can fix toys with the help from her stuffed animals. Series have been well accepted by many.

Doc McStuffins is a hit animated feature in Disney Junior channel. Kids of white and black are equally attracted to the black main character of the show. The character appeals to a wider range of demographics, especially children because of its nurturing nature. Also the dark character appeals to a worldwide audience.

Toys based on TV characters generate enormous revenue for Disney as well as other companies including Viacom. Most companies generate more than one half of their toy sales revenue during the holiday season.

The popular singing competition, “American Idol” will start airing in mid-January 2014 on Fox on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This will be the 13th season for the much popular show. Ryan Seacrest once again will host the show and judges will include former judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban and newcomer Harry Connick Jr. Jennifer Lopez is returning to the show after a brief absence. Keith Urban served as a judge last season along with singers Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. Harry Connick Jr. served as a mentor before so, he is not new to the show. Many hope that the new show will be without drama that engulfed the last season due to on-air sniping between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Hope this time contestants are the limelight instead of judges.

Many expect the new season to bring some changes to the show based on viewer and contestant input. Viewers as well as younger contestants are asking the show producers to include popular current hits in addition to golden oldies. Still the show will feature popular Auditions, the Hollywood Week, and finally the Top 13 picked by judges. As usual the show will end in May 2014 after crowning a new “American Idol.”

Digital media to revolutionize the movie theaters

Posted by elegant On February - 25 - 2012

It appears that the era of celluloid projection movie theaters are numbered. More and more existing theaters are converting to digital media. Approximately 26,000 of the 40,000 strong U.S. movie theaters are already converted to new digital system which is far superior quality to old celluloid. The cost of the conversion to new digital media is about $75,000. The major chains are expected to complete their theater conversion to new format by early 2013.

The conversion to new digital media may not be profitable for most of the smaller theaters because it doesn’t add any new capacity or revenue. Therefore, several thousand existing smaller theaters are expected to be closed down by 2013 when the industry is expected to go totally digital. However, industry has not set a deadline for conversion to digital media at this time.

Smaller theater owners are worried that the pace of the technology may make their converted theaters obsolete in a year or two costing them to replace equipment again with hardly any new income. Hollywood is working with investors who are willing to modernize existing theaters with new equipment and the owners will pay a monthly charge for leasing new ly installed equipment.

The X Factor USA Final is this week

chris rene-Melanie Amaro-Josh krajcik
The X factor USA final is this week. 3 contestants are remaining. They are: Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene and Melanie Amaro. $5 Million is up for grabs for the winner. In case you have not been following, here is a little summary of each contestant.

Josh Krajcik: He is the oldest of the contestant at age 30 from the over-30 group. He flips burgers during the day, but music is his passion and he has always tried to make it as an artist. His voice has a grungy soulful sound to it. During the rock week, he did a cover of Foo Fighters song, which I feel was his best so far and rocked the house.

Chris Rene: He doesn’t have the best voice of the remaining contestants, but has the charisma, the looks and what it takes to be a super star. He writes and plays his own music. He has performed 2 of his own songs so far and has also written additional lyrics for some of the covers he has done. His style is hip hop and his mentor LA Reid once said that Kanye would be proud of him.

Melanie Amaro: She probably has the best voice of the remaining contestants and has taken on real powerful songs from Maria Carey to Celine Dion. She is only 18. She almost did not make it to the Top 16, but Simon Cowel his mentor changed his mind at the last minute. After he had already picked 4 to go to the next round, he decided he had made a mistake and brought on Melanie as well. It seems he made the right choice.

Let’s watch the show this week and see what happens.
