Two Warhol master pieces to go on the auction block

Two Andy Warhol masterpieces are expected go on the auction block in November 2013. Christie’s will auction “Coca-Cola (3)” on November 12 and Sotheby’s will auction “Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)” the next day. The 1962 “Coca-Cola (3)” is a painting of a human sized Coca-Cola bottle and considered to be one of the iconic paintings by the artist. Painting stayed in a private collection for more than two decades and is expected to go for $40 to $60 million. The “Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)” is also in a private collection since 1988 and Sotheby’s expect the price to be more than $60 million. His 1963 canvas, Eight Elvises, fetched $100 million.

Andy Warhol was an American artist who led the visual art movement also known as pop art. Since his death in 1987, The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania holds an extensive collection of his art. His art includes hand drawings, paintings, printmaking, photography, silk printing, sculptures, film, and music. He also pioneered the computer generated art. Among many books of Warhol, The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties are much popular. He is credited with the phrase “15 minutes of fame.”

The TV musical-comedy sensation Glee

The unfortunate accidental drug toxicities caused death of Cory Monteith brings the Fox’s weekly singing and acting sensation Glee into the limelight. An American teen musical-comedy that airs on Fox network is created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan. The show revolves around the William McKinley High School Glee Club highlights competitions, relationships, sexuality, social issues, and team work among young adults. The main cast started with 12 members now accommodates 15.

Originally intended for a movie, the pilot episode of Glee was broadcast on May 19, 2009 and the first season followed the September of that year ending in June 2010. The successful fifth season is scheduled to begin on September 26, 2013 and the sixth season has already being sanctioned. Over 36 million copies of Glee songs have been downloaded from iTunes store while album sales as of 2011 exceeded 11 million. The show and its actors have been nominated for Golden Globe Awards as well as Emmy Awards and winning many of those as well as countless other awards. A future episode of Glee will be dedicated to the fallen star Cory Monteith (played role Finn Hudson) and will be appropriately dubbed as “The Quarterback.”

Grand Theft Auto V setting new sales records

Within the first three days of the release of the Take-Two Interactive Software’s (parent company of the game developer Rockstar Games) Grand Theft Auto V on September 17, 2013, sales rang up more than $1 billion setting a new record. Within the first 24-hours, the sales reached more than $800 million. Previous record was held by the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 earning just over $500 million within the first day of release. The rival Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II took more than 15 days to generate sales of $1 billion.

The action-adventure video game was available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Started in 2001, this is the 15th title of the Grand Theft Auto series. The game is played in the form of third-person perspective. It involves driving and action gameplay in fictional San Andreas. No sooner than the game was released, critics were quick to condemn carjacking, prostitutes, and murder scenarios. Beyond the controversy, gamers were thrilled by the danger, kill-at-will, sexual fantasy that the three morally corrupt characters of the interactive entertainment that the game provides. The game as an interactive entertainment is fulfilling all gamer’s dreams.

Bruno Mars to perform at the Super Bowl

Just at the opening of the 2013 football season, the National Football League announced that Grammy winning Bruno Mars will be performing during the half-time show at the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl XLVIII is set for February 2, 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Super Bowl is broadcast all over the world and just in the U.S. it attracts more than 100 million viewers. A pop music icon Mars has several No. 1 hits including the most recent, When I Was Your Man. Born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii he took the stage name as Bruno Mars. He is a singer-songwriter and record producer and comes from a musical family. As a child he performed at his school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. His platinum-selling debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans came out in 2010 includes such No. 1 hits singles “Just the way you are” and “Grenade.” His second album, Unorthodox Jukebox was released in 2012. He has been rewarded with numerous awards including a Grammy Award, an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, and a BRIT Award. He was honored at the MTV Music Award in August 2013.
